Why is it important for municipalities to hear the voices of children and young people? How can this be achieved? This Innovation Circle Network virtual workshop will draw on the experiences of three experts and will provide an opportunity for questions to them.
Our Speakers
Dr. Jenny Wood, Research Associate at the Institute for Social Policy, Housing and Equalities Research, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, completed her PhD in 2016 on children’s human rights and the Scottish Planning system. Jenny also writes about the spatial implications of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. She has delivered a range of community engagement sessions with children; training to policy-makers and practitioners; and presented an international keynote presentation. She is also Co-founder and Co-director of Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation ‘A Place in Childhood’ (APiC).
Helena Edvinsson, Children’s Ombusdsman, Strängnäs kommun, Sweden. Every year, the municipality's politicians meet children of different ages under the chestnut tree at Multeum in Strängnäs. At the meeting, it is the children who are experts and answer the politicians' questions. It can be about everything from building projects to integration.
Petra Biberbach, Chief Executive of PAS, Scotland. Pas has worked extensively with youths and children, and hosted ICN International Youth Camps.
